RAIN FALL
It is formed when small water droplets combine together to form large
drops.
These are evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
The rains occurs when water vapor turn into vapor by evaporation, then,
vapor turned to the liquids form by condensation
The rains occurs when
water vapor turn into vapor by evaporation, then, vapor turned to the liquids
form by condensation on form of cloud
and then water precipitated on the earth from large part return to the sea and
rivers.
Types of rain fall
There are three types
of rain fall
Convectional rain Convection rain is the rain formed
through vertical rising of heated moist air currents.
Air currents rise due
to differential heating on the earth’s surface. As the moist air rises, it
cools and moisture in it condenses to form clouds and latter rain fall.
Relief (orographic)
rain; Rain fall formed when the air forced by the mountain to rise,on reaching higher altitude
the moisture in it. Condenses to form droplets, which latter full as rain. The
rain is formed on the windward side. The side of the mountain that does not
receive rain fall is referred to as leeward side or rain shadow.
Cyclonic (frontal) rain;
Cyclonic rain is the rain formed when large masses of different characteristics
of temperature and moisture meet. When two air masses meet the warm and moist
air is forced up over the cool dry air, it expands. On reaching higher
altitudes the warm moist air cools and moisture in it condenses to form cloud and latter rain
fall. Cyclonic rain fall is common along the tropical areas between latitudes 8
N and 8 S where tropical cyclonic occur.
FACTORS THAT CAUSES
VARIATION IN RAINFALL
Rain fall varies from
one place to another on the earth’s surface. The variation is caused by various
factors it includes:
Ø Oceans current
Ø Distance
from equator
Ø Prevailing
wind
Ø lack or
presence of water bodies
Nature and shape of the
coasts
Ø Distance
from the sea
Ø Altitude
Ø Amount
of vegetation and human activities
Effect of rain fall
Rain has various effect
which include
- Too much rain fall lead to
destruction of life and properties such as houses, bridges and crops,
because of flood as well as erosion.
- Occurrence of flood lead to
eruption of disease like malaria, cholera
- To little rain fall lead to little
yield of food and cash crops. Famine and hunger occur due to poor yield
- . Erosion feature may lead
development of tourism
- 5. When rain fall is reliable it leads
to continues crops production and animal keeping. This may lead to
improved standard of living and industrial development in the nation.
- 6. Rain helps in regulating the
temperature of a place.
